NKCR 2017 Day 1 - Orientation and Training Rides #BeccaToldMeTo

Today was a great day, starting off with our orientation session, covering off what we need to know for the ride ahead.

During the ride, many of the riders came by and provided wrist bands which signify some of the children who have “graduated” from cancer, ultimately losing their battles. It is very significant and an emontional burden which I will carry as we ride across the country.
Amongst those stories is Becca’s, who has become somehwat of an internet sensation, with the #BeccaToldMeTo hashtag, which outlines a wonderful “pay it forward” mentaliy, telling us to be kind, help each other, and provide for others, as you would for yourself. Becca is still with us, and recently celebrated her 18th birthday, but is stricken with a brain cancer which has been diagnosed as terminal. We proudly display #BeccaToldMeTo as inspiration as to how we should live our lives.
After orientation, it was time to head off for a quick training ride down to White Rock, and to pick up some stones which we will leave on the beach with messages about childhood cancer. A good shake out ride in preparation for our ride to BC Children’s hospital tomorrow, and then the beginning of our cross country trek tomorrow. I look forward to heading out on this journey with my “wheel family”.

Of course, there is still work to be done. You CAN help: donate to help us end Childhood Cancer in all it’s forms. We need your support to get kids #beyondchildhoodcancer. You can donate on my page at snkcr.com/richmeesters.

Until the next time.
