NKCR 2017 Day 2 – BC Children’s Hospital and a Warrior Princess

Today the NKCR team went to BC Children’s Hospital for the regular (but new to me) visit before we begin our ride east. Before we left, we took some time for group pictures, including these guys, our volunteers, who will be critical in helping to get the riders across the country. We couldn’t do it without you, and if we forget to say thanks along the way, it will only be because we are too tired.
The ride was good although the air quality was not the best – the smoke and ozone decided to settle in on Vancouver today. A little bit of traffic caused us a bit of a delay, and then a pothole caused me to get a rear flat and have to go in the support vehicle until we could stop and fix it with the group. After that, the ride went without a hitch.
We arrived ontime at BCCH and heard from Dr. Strahlendorf about the advances in technology and the benefits that the funds raise have on research and better ways to treat cancer. Then we met our Ambassador Inara’s mom who told us about her daugher’s journey, and we presented the first of the signed ambassador jerseys to her. Inara was having chemo treatment and was delayed, but when she arrived, she was a force of nature. You can see the fight in this little one, and her prognosis is very good.
All in all, it was a great start to our journey. Tomorrow we officially hit the road, with a wheel dip in the Pacific Ocean in White Rock, and then Team 1 heads to Hope.
Until the next time. Keep donating at virtualnationalkidscancerride.greatfeats.com/rich-meesters
